how our journey began…

One sunny Tuesday afternoon, two weeks after our baby clocked 2 years old, we got a call from her school. We were told that she was having some pains and so we took her to the children emergency ward. Before long, the doctors were talking about conducting a biopsy and everything was moving so fast we didn’t even have the time to wrap our heads around everything that was happening before our eyes.

In a matter of days, the dreaded report was delivered to us.

“Um, it’s a tumour……and yes, it is cancerous”.

The short declaration, expressed with deep sympathy by our doctor-friend, would occupy all our time and control all the actions of our family for the next fifteen months.

Through the long trying period however, we found comfort in the silent presence of friends, the teary prayers of family, the sense of urgency of the medical team and the financial and material donation of those who surrounded us. In some way or another, all these people made our burden lighter and our hope stronger.

We thank God and the great medical team behind our daughter that she beat the cancer and is well today. Now, we can boldly say that cancer does not have to be a death sentence and we desire to help others facing the fight against cancer to experience the same.

AFACC is the vehicle through which we hope to achieve this goal. Supported by friends who are passionate about defeating childhood cancer, we have set out to be an anchor for those weathering the storm that we passed through. We long to be the silent presence, the prayer-companion, the urgent caregiver and the benefactor that these lovely souls desperately need and we urge you to support us.
